Texas Governor Abbott to Sign Law Banning Sanctuary Cities

Mention the Trump campaign and immigration will quickly come to mind.  From his promise to build a wall along our border with Mexico to stop illegal migration, to his promise to deport illegals, especially those who have committed violent crimes, Mr. Trump has launched a broadside against one of the Democrats’ methods of increasing those voting for Democratic candidates — importing illegal aliens, then letting them vote.

Trump has already gone on record as threatening to cut funding for so-called “sanctuary cities” — places to which illegals can flee to avoid deportation.  Of course, the mayors of these cities are furious.  And Trump got a bit of support from an unlikely source — Obama’s Justice Department — where the DOJ Inspector General issued his opinion that such sanctuary cities violate federal law.

Perhaps Texas Governor Greg Abbott has had his fill of this nonsensical and blatant violation of the law, as he stated that he will not tolerate sanctuary cities in Texas.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) is pledging to ban sanctuary cities in his state even as other governors and mayors promise to continue sheltering illegal immigrants.

“I’m going to sign a law that bans sanctuary cities,” Abbott tweeted on Sunday.

“Also I’ve already issued an order cutting funding to sanctuary cities.”

That should do the trick:  Cut their funding.  Now even if these cities manage to continue to violate the immigration laws for a while, they will now have to do it on their own dime.  We shall see how dedicated these liberals are to their open immigration policies when they have to come up with the money.  And explain to their citizens the violent crimes that some of these illegals commit.

Trump is not messing around either.  Given the level of violent crime that attaches to these people who have entered the country illegally, it’s lunacy to give them sanctuary anywhere.

During his presidential campaign, President-elect Donald Trump pledged to deport millions of immigrants.

He said during an interview shortly after his victory he would prioritize deporting or jailing any undocumented immigrants who were members of gangs or had criminal records.

He also vowed during the campaign to block federal dollars from cities that give sanctuary to undocumented immigrants.

Time to respect those who have followed the law while immigrating to the US, but giving those who chose to come here illegally a free trip back home.
