Russian Jet Conducts Risky Barrel-roll over U.S. Reconnaissance Plane

The Russian military has been openly provoking the U.S. military in the last several months, with no response coming from President Obama thus far. Obama talked about a “red line” that he would not permit anyone to cross many months ago. This was in relation to actions in Syria, and when the “red line” ultimately was crossed, there were absolutely no repercussions and Obama was seen as all talk, no action.

In fact, the U.S. essentially gave up on the cause and ceded the leadership and direction of the fight in Syria to Russia. Putin has recognized the weakness of Obama and is now showing the world that he is a weak and unwilling leader. The latest affront included a Russian jet challenging a U.S. aircraft in international airspace.

Washington (CNN)A U.S. Air Force reconnaissance plane was barrel-rolled by a Russian jet over the Baltic Sea during a routine flight in international airspace, U.S. European Command said Saturday, but Russia disputed that account.

The incident Thursday occurred when a Russian jet “performed erratic and aggressive maneuvers” as it flew within 50 feet of the U.S. aircraft’s wing tip, Danny Hernandez, a spokesman for U.S. European Command, said in a response to a question from CNN.

The Russian Su-27 began the barrel roll from the left side of the U.S. RC-135 and went over the top of it to end on the right side of the aircraft, European Command said.
The RC-135 aircraft was “intercepted by a Russian SU-27 in an unsafe and unprofessional manner,” Hernandez said, adding that the U.S. plane never entered Russian territory.
“The unsafe and unprofessional actions of a single pilot have the potential to unnecessarily escalate tensions between countries,” said Hernandez, who added the United States is protesting with the Russian government.
This latest display was preceded by Russian aircraft flying within 30 feet of the U.S. Destroyer Donald Cook in simulated attacks on the ship, along with two Russian helicopters circling the vessel and taking pictures.
Two facts are key. The first is that Barack Obama is not an international leader, he is a community organizer that gained office because he is a smooth talker and liberals were determined to atone for their ancestors sins by having an African-American president. Those same liberals are anti-military and anti-U.S. when it comes to international stature. Obama is weak, but he is also hamstrung because of his base, so he dare not stand up to the bully because he is afraid of both Putin the his own backers.
The second problem is that Obama has hollowed out our military. He has used the sequester, which was designed to stop runaway spending, to punish the military and to decrease its readiness and ability to respond to outside threats. Jets cannot fly due to lack of parts and maintenance, troops are dispirited because the left, including Obama, disdains the the military. He has caused to military to become a jobs and social engineering program, with more focus on political correctness and advancing gays in the military than in defensive readiness.
Putin has clearly recognized that challenging Obama and the United States military is no threat at all, because our only response under this impotent and frightened president is to “make firm, resolute statements” that seem very much like the threat of the “red line in the sand” that Obama intoned several months ago.
Which tells us one thing…whatever Obama says, it means absolutely nothing, and Russian is free to do whatever they want to embarrass and humiliate our President and the nation.
