Pope Francis is upending catholic tradition once again, and many of his followers aren’t happy.
Pope Francis was selected to lead the Catholic church in 2013, after several years of scandal-prone leadership from his predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI. But it wasn’t long until Francis began stirring controversy himself.
Unlike his predecessor — who was often characterized as “too conservative” — Francis immediately began liberalizing the Catholic faith. He suggested that his followers apologize to gay people and validated the beliefs of competing religions, claiming that all religions worship the same god. Then, in perhaps the most bizarre development of last year, the pontiff began an unprompted feud with Donald Trump over immigration policy.
So it should come as no surprise that Pope Francis is once again upsetting many of his diehard followers with an announcement that seems to go against fundamental Catholic values.
See more on the “grave sin” the Pope says women can be forgiven for on the next page:
Tom, please give us all a break. The faculties that Francis gave the priests were needed to be done. More women and their co-conspirators have had abortions and if truly truly repentant, are forgiven. The only avenue they had to be reconciled with the Church was to go to the local Bishop. Abortion is murder and is a sin that causes excommunication, which, cannot, until now, be forgiven by the local priest. You care correct that God forgives all sins, but the priest, through the graces that Jesus Christ gave his Apostles: “the sins that are forgiven, are forgiven, those sins that are retained, are retained.” Which gives the priest the ability to forgive sins or retain them. Retaining means sins that cannot be forgiven by man, abortion is one of those sins, until now. Please, don’t besmirch the Catholic Sacraments which are part and partial to achieving heaven, for everyone, if they so choose to become Catholic. Even if non-catholics choose to take all their sins to God, there will always be doubt, even you have to admit that. Abortion is a sin that requires consultation: think of it as a Holy Shrink because there is a grievous mark on the mothers (and all those who participated in the abortion) soul that needs to be discussed and remedied. Remember, the Bible was written well after all of these Catholic Sacraments were already in use.
It’s sad to see what he’s doing to the church
You are partially right. The priest forgives sin, Through Jesus Christ, by his becoming a priest of God. Only God forgives sins, but we have a human integrator between God and Man and that is the priest who represents the Human God on earth.
Christ not priests died for our sins.
When religion changes to let people do in moral stuff then it’s really not a true religion
Rediculous
YOU BETTER UNDERSTAND THERE IS ONLY ONE THAT CAN FORGIVE YOU AND THATS THE LORD JESUS CHRIST.ALL YOU HAVE TO ASK HIM OPEN YOUR HEART ASK HE CAN HEAR YOU.HE WILL FORGIVE YOU NO MATTER WHAT THE SIN.BUT UNDERSTAND YOU CANT KEEP GOING BACK AND COMMITTING THE SINS OVER AND OVER BE SINCERE HE CAN HEAR YOU.
ONLY GOD CAN FORGIVE SIN!
I believe God is all forgiving.
You are altogether incorrect. That is catholic teaching but it is contrary to scripture. Neither the priest nor the pope have any more authority to forgive the any other minister. Only God forgives sin period
