Assistant chief of police, Anita Najiy, created a bone of contention between the Miami Police Department and the Fraternal Order of Police President, Javier Ortiz, after she refused to hold her hand over her heart for the Pledge of Allegiance during a recent promotional ceremony.
Ortiz became livid in seeing Najiy refuse to honor the Pledge, stating that she failed to exhibit courtesy and etiquette that “must be exercised when wearing a law enforcement uniform.”
“If you’re not pledging allegiance to the United States, my question is what country are you pledging allegiance to?” Ortiz asks. “Anyone who isn’t offended by that is not American, because when you become a U.S. citizen, you pledge allegiance to the US.”
Ortiz also states that Najiy’s disrepect comes from her Muslim belief, but that normal “protections” or exemptions generally given in the name of religious freedom and speech doesn´t apply to those in police uniform because “you’re supposed to be neutral.”
MOVE TO PAGE 2:

She’s an American Citizen….so she’s already there, and she doesn’t have to according to the Supreme Court and the 1st Amendment. That whole Freedom thing….
Yes but if she don’t want to do it then a good solution is go away, since this country is founded on the pledge of allegiance an fighting for this country kinda thing an being a citizen is about saying the pledge of allegiance! Ya know what I’m saying! An you wouldn’t have freedom without standing up for this country!
SHE actually has been upholding the laws of Florida and the cons$#%&!@*ution for 32 years. There is no law that requires her to put her hand on her chest for the pledge…..
This country wasn’t founded on the pledge. The pledge wasn’t written until 1892…over 100 years after the country was founded.
And while she may not be fighting for this country in the way you mean…she has been protecting its citizens for over 30 years…..being an American Citizen is about having the freedom to NOT say the pledge if you disagree with it for some reason. Again…its a freedom thing….
Fire their $#%&!@* not followinmg our laws.
The pledge allegiance is saying you will stand for the citizens an this country 100 percent no matter in battle or court that’s the problem with this country today you all want someone else to do your dirty work an want to eat your cake to an frankly. I’m not so sure that option is going to continue to be available! Then what will you guys do go oh well or start fighting for your rights.
No action prove more then words she has made her stand by one simple gesture
Loyalty means more then anything don it’s called honor
So her actions and her 3 decades of service mean nothing to you…..since after 32 years she didn’t put her hand on her chest (all the article says) you want her to go back to a country that she didn’t come from because you don’t think she belongs? And you mention fighting for your rights…..SHE is exercising her rights and YOU are the one trying to deny them. Don’t you see the irony?!
Having said that..I am not quite sure who “you all” you are referring to or what dirty work you are referring to….
Country is above all things
