Matt Damon Leaving Country to Get Away from Trump

A popular threat made by liberals, at least until November of 2016, was to leave the U.S. if Donald Trump won. In fact, we previously published a list of ten of those folks. Then we were able to add an eleventh. It was with joy that we learned that Barbra Streisand threated to leave the U.S. if Trump became president. The reasons for supporting the Trump campaign continued to grow.

So far, we are still stuck with these people with one exception. And it looks like even that individual is not moving out permanently, or even until the 2020 election. Matt Damon has announced that he is taking his family to Australia. Yet it sounds more like a vacation than a fulfillment of a threat to leave the U.S. if Trump won.

Matt Damon is taking his family to Australia — a top Hollywood source told Page Six – in part because the liberal star’s fed up with President Trump. But the star’s rep insists he is not leaving the US permanently.

A top Hollywood source told Page Six: “Matt’s telling friends and colleagues in Hollywood that he’s moving the family to Australia for a year,” because the activist actor disagrees with Trump’s policies.

But a second source close to Damon, 47, told Page Six his plan was to go Down Under for around three months with his family, depending on his filming schedule, but the move would not be permanent.

The Daily Telegraph newspaper in Sydney had reported that Damon was buying a home in Byron Bay near actor Chris Hemsworth. The two recently appeared in “Thor: Ragnarok” together.

But Damon spokeswoman Jennifer Allen told the Associated Press that while Damon had visited Australia a lot recently he had not bought a home there.

Allen, who repeatedly ignored requests for comment from Page Six, told the Associated Press, “He’s not moving out of the U.S.” She did not comment about Damon’s feelings about the president.

Another disappointment. And here we were hoping that this notorious band of left-wingers would all find a new country to afflict.

All of this raises the question as to why they made the threats to leave in the first place since they clearly are not following through. Maybe they thought Hillary couldn’t lose. Maybe they didn’t do much thinking at all.

Or, perhaps their jumbo-sized egos simply overcame whatever judgment they might possess, and thus compelled them to make their childish threats. And perhaps they realize that if they did leave, they might not be able to generate the publicity they crave.

So we are stuck with them. That said, nothing precludes our reminding them of their threats. Should President Trump get re-elected in 2020, maybe then they will really, finally, move. But don’t count on it.

One of Damon’s publicists has come forward to deny the story. Damon has yet to put out an official statement.

A publicist for Matt Damon is batting down reports that the actor is moving to Australia with his family, and that such a move would have been inspired by anger over President Donald Trump.

The Daily Telegraph newspaper in Sydney had reported that Damon was buying a home in Byron Bay near actor Chris Hemsworth. The two recently appeared in Thor: Ragnarok together.

Damon spokeswoman Jennifer Allen said Damon has been to Australia a lot recently. But Damon has not bought a home there nor is he relocating there, she said.

The New York Post’s Page Six gossip site, citing an unnamed source, said the Good Will Hunting and Jason Bourne star told friends and colleagues he wanted to leave the country because he disagrees with Trump’s policies.

When asked about Damon’s rumored motivation, Allen wrote in an email, “He’s not moving out of the U.S.” Damon has publicly supported Democrats, including Trump’s rival in the 2016 presidential election, Hillary Clinton.
