The Utah Senate asked Congress to repeal the 17th Amendment, which was ratified under the Progressive’s of 1913. Utah has boldly challenged a system that was never the intent of the Founding Fathers and suggests that the 17th Amendment has resulted in Senators being bound to special interest groups, that donate enormous sums of money for the Senator’s re-election, and not representing the needs of the people of Utah.
The bill’s sponsor, Sen. Al Jackson of Utah, believes that Senators need to “come home every weekend and take direction from their state legislative (sic) body and from the House and the Governor on how they should vote in the upcoming week.”
Passing with 20-6 SJR2 was sent to the House. It demands that Congress repeal the 17th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

Sabrina Hornung thoughts?
Yes we should have known better
Let’s start by getting rid of the 16th first
Isn’t that what is great about democracy–everyone can have their opinion!
I totally agree with repealing the 17th Amendment 100%. It took power from the states and moved it to the federal government. The Senators representing the States was a very intentional and thought out move on the part of the Founders, and served as an additional separation of powers. The States were the parties that ratified the Constitution, not the people. I think it’s counterintuitive to many, but the representative republic we were given actually keeps power spread out and closer to the people than pure direct democracy.
Nope. We The People should making the decisions of who holds all offices.
This amentment prevents characters as we have now acting as president will not be able to do so again! Do not repeal. Abide by the amendment. Thanks. Up-hold the Constitution.
Amen!
The citizens ARE the State, the Country. We select our legislators, not the State. This Amendment needs to remain as is.
Are you crazy?
