The Obama administration speaks out of both sides of its mouth, lauding the U.S. military one day, but cutting budgets, programs and manpower the next. This is a huge concern given the tremendous growth of the Chinese fleet, with the U.S. less than two thirds the size of the Chinese navy, and with Russia exhibiting much more aggressive objectives and power.
China is also contesting a number of islands claimed by U.S. allies such as the Philippines and Japan, and the decrease in available vessels to protect those areas is a major concern.
