Tech Companies Urge Congress to Let Obama Transfer Internet to Global Community

The clock is ticking as we inch closer and closer to the day the federal government is set to turn over control of the Internet to an international body.

Needless to say, the move isn’t exactly going over with Americans. Republican lawmakers have taken a stand and are attempting to stop the transfer, noting that it effectively empowers special interests and tyrannical regimes to censor the web as they see fit. After all, surely Americans haven’t been doing that bad of a job of managing the Internet that we need global entities to take over and do the job themselves.

But President Obama sure thinks so, and he’s far from the only one. Panicking over the chance that Congress will halt the move, tech giants like Facebook, Google and Twitter have urged them to abandon their plans and let the transfer go as scheduled on October 1st.
