Russia Deploys Heavy Flamethrower

Those near the ignition points of the TOS-1A Heavy Flamethrower System, also nicknamed Buratino, after a Russian children’s book character, are obliterated, and those at the edge of the ignition zones can suffer burst eardrums, crushed inner organs, severe concussions, ruptured lungs and internal organs and blindness. As far ground weapons go, it’s a force to be reckoned with.

The blast is lethal in itself, but the vacuum that follows the explosion is strong enough to cause deadly internal damage, including rupturing of vital organs, such as the lungs.

A study by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency from as early as 1993, writes that the effect of a thermobaric weapon on targets in confined spaces, such as buildings, bunkers and tunnels, is ‘immense’.

The TOS-1A has reportedly been used by the Russian Army since 2001 and has also been exported to Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Iraq where it has already been used to fight ISIS.

This follows reports that Russia also reportedly moved the TOS-1 system into rebel-held Ukraine earlier this month.

The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe – which is monitoring a ceasefire in eastern Ukraine – reported that its monitors had spotted a mobile TOS-1 Buratino system just two weeks ago.

Earlier today, Russia’s defence ministry reported that it’s fighter jets had hit 40 ISIS targets over the past 24 hours, destroying several ammunition depots and training camps.

‘From the Hmeimim air base, the crews of Su-34, Su-24M and Su-25SM warplanes carried out 41 sorties against 40 targets of the Islamic State’s terrorist infrastructure in Aleppo, Idlib, Latakia, Hama and Deir Ezzor,’ said a ministry spokesman.

In the vicinity of the city of Aleppo, Russian bombers destroyed facilities used by fighters to make explosive devices and car bombs, spokesman Igor Konashenkov said in a statement.

Despite claims that Russia isn’t hitting ISIS targets but instead hitting rebel groups fighting against Assad, Russia certainly seems to be making progress in Syria. Even if ISIS aren’t their only targets, they might be doing the world a favor by obliterating future terror groups. Everybody remembers what happened last time the Obama Administration armed rebels.
