“I can’t imagine any use for bayonets in an urban setting,” stated Sen. Rand Paul to Senate Homeland Security Committee at a hearing last year.
“I can’t answer what a local police force would use a bayonet for,” Alan Estevez said.
Paul snapped back “None”
Rand Paul is completely correct, of course, that there is no need for bayonets in local law enforcement. Bayonets are for hand-to-hand combat in battle and the only purpose is to kill.

Good question?
This is going too far! Just WHAT is the government expecting that ordinary police officers should have heavy duty weapons and bayonets?
they are not In the military and this is uncalled for.. they do not not need these.
Hey For your inforamtion. They issued Bayonets to the local police back in in 1966. With people acting like morons today. They will need them.
They don’t
I’m with Rand Paul !
They Do NOT!!!
So if cops can use them on the citizenry, can the citizenry use them on cops? Could happen.
Cops already carry lock knives
While he’s asking, maybe they can tell us why local police departments need all this miltary vehicles and hardware? Next thing you know, the local SWAT team will pull up to a barricaded suspect scene and pull out a rocket-propelled-grenade launcher…. This business of giving surplus military gear and hardware to local law enforcement agencies needs to be stopped NOW, and I mean NOW as in yesterday!!!
