Probe Ordered For Councilman Who Called For Throwing Rocks, Bottles and Bricks At Police

In his address of Kenneth Stokes’s comments, Governor Phil Bryant talked about all of the recent attacks against police officers, calling the councilman’s comments, “an outright assault upon all those who wear the badge.” And he’s right.

Mr. Bryant said he would be asking Attorney General Jim Hood to investigate.

Mr. Stokes defended his position on Friday saying, “When you have these police officers coming from other jurisdictions, and they will not respect human life, then I said we should use rocks, bricks or bottles to try to get the message over: Stop endangering our children,” the Jackson Clarion-Ledger reported.

Other officials who have spoken out about the matter include Sheriff Randy Tucker of neighboring Madison County, who took to Facebook to issue a warning to Mr. Stokes.

“Any Madison County law enforcement that is attacked because of your ignorant statements, I will hold you responsible,” he said.

Even Jackson’s Mayor Tony Yarber said that while there is a need to respect jurisdictional boundaries, he would never condone violence against police officers. It would seem that Kenneth Stokes stands alone, and let’s hope it stays that way. An elected official is supposed to have the best interest of the people at heart. It’s difficult to do that, when you’re calling for war against law enforcement.
