President Trump Puts the UN Budget on the Chopping Block

President Trump wishes to reduce funding to the United Nations by 50 percent. That’s a swell start, but why stop there? It’s an organization that loves tyrants and dictators and hates the US. Just give the organization the boot, and take the advice offered to Mr. Trump that he turn the building into condos. At least it would then serve a useful purpose.

How obvious does this have to get? The committee that is supposed to promote human rights has Saudi Arabia and Cuba as members.

Given that the UN gives tinpot dictators the opportunity to berate the US on our nickle, what we are funding would be analogous to paying your neighbor to dump his trash in your front yard.

Enough of this lunacy. Give them the boot. Case closed.

As expected, establishment mouthpiece Foreign Affairs is horrified by the despicable plan of President Trump to slash the subsidy to the UN by 50 percent.

State Department staffers have been instructed to seek cuts in excess of 50 percent in U.S. funding for U.N. programs, signaling an unprecedented retreat by President Donald Trump’s administration from international operations that keep the peace, provide vaccines for children, monitor rogue nuclear weapons programs, and promote peace talks from Syria to Yemen, according to three sources.

The push for such draconian measures comes as the White House is scheduled on Thursday to release its 2018 budget proposal, which is expected to include cuts of up to 37 percent for spending on the State Department, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and other foreign assistance programs, including the U.N., in next year’s budget. The United States spends about $10 billion a year on the United Nations.

Okay, Foreign Affairs, we’ll tell you what. How about we end our support of the UN and dedicate some of that $10 billion per year that is wasted on the useless UN, and put it toward private organizations that provide health care including vaccines for children? That is if helping children by improving their health is the real goal, not maintaining a bloated international bureaucracy that wastes money and hates the US.

And we are to believe that the UN has worked to “monitor rogue nuclear weapons programs.” [Emphasis added.] So what? It has watched as rouge nations have developed nuclear weapons and we’re supposed to be impressed?

We could go on, but refuting each claim by the UN that is does something useful gets so tiring, partly because the UN’s failings are so obvious.  It’s past time to get the US out of the UN, and get the UN out of the US. Move it to some nation that gives a damn about what it does, and doesn’t mind wasting its citizens tax dollars.
