Under the 2016 pay scale, a Pay Grade E-1 undergoing recruit training will be paid roughly $2.15 an hour.

Bob Dennin, you left out part of the equation. The military recommendation was for a 2.1% pay raise. Obama reduced the raise to 1.3%. Congress shamefully, accepted the lower rate. The article isn’t an exaggeration of the low pay scale for the military…it is disgraceful.
