Jay Familglietti, NASA’s top water scientist, recently warned that California has only a year’s supply of water left in storage facilities and the backup groundwater is rapidly depleting. Despite this harrowing fact, California has no backup plan to address this crisis.
“California has no contingency plan for a persistent drought like this one (let alone a 20-plus-year mega-drought), except, apparently, staying in emergency mode and praying for rain,” stated Familglietti. “In short, we have no paddle to navigate this crisis.”
UPDATE: California Gov. Jerry Brown issues ineffectual, mandatory water restriction as one-third of our nation’s crops are threatened. See Page 3 for updates.
MOVE TO PAGE 2:.

Sorry Alan. Agriculture uses most of the water consumed in California. It’s not man, it’s your demand for almonds, lettuce, wine and other water intensive crops that’s the cause. Not urban use.
Window dressing when 90% of California’s water consumption is for agriculture.
Reading these comments is hilarious. Some people have no clue about California, like that the hardest hit areas are farm country and not the crunchy granola cities. Or that 90% of California’s water consumption is for agriculture. Yup, it goes to grow all of those blue diamond almonds and the spinach and lettuce you buy, let alone a significant portion of your citrus fryit, etc.
Oh, and those farm areas, just like in New York and Ohio they vote solidly for republicans.
Dogs are mad. Humans get angry, and your right, Oregon IS gay.
But we have 2000 years of wine left !
One word that the Middle East has understood for years “desalinization”
You’re all set then lol.
Obama cut off the federal program to supply water to farmers to punish them for being rich. Was going on when i was living out there.
In 2000 I lived in Las Vegas & I remember the casino’s going dimmer and no lights during the day so that CA could buy power from NV due to brown-outs. Now it’ll be water from neighboring states.
Wow! No back up plan.
