Jay Familglietti, NASA’s top water scientist, recently warned that California has only a year’s supply of water left in storage facilities and the backup groundwater is rapidly depleting. Despite this harrowing fact, California has no backup plan to address this crisis.
“California has no contingency plan for a persistent drought like this one (let alone a 20-plus-year mega-drought), except, apparently, staying in emergency mode and praying for rain,” stated Familglietti. “In short, we have no paddle to navigate this crisis.”

They’ll have plenty of water when they crumble into the ocean. Plenty of water east of the fault line.
Well considering the central valley produces a very large amount of the nation’s agricultural product, I’d say people that don’t want to pay 10 dollars for a single tomato would. That’s just to give a single example. We produce almost 90% of the world’s almonds and other nuts, if we dry up in the central valley (our farmers are getting 0% water allocation this year but paying 100%) the price of various food products will skyrocket.
A lot of this over bad governing and flushing millions of gallons of fresh water into the ocean to save a fish and drying up our water supplies. Not everyone in California wants nor deserves this. Populations are concentrated in very liberal areas so a lot of liberals get elected and they run everything into the ground. It’s a shame, I love living here but it’s becoming harder and harder to want to stay.
If they haven’t already I believe they are starting to make it illegal for people to dig their own wells, even on their own land. Gotta love it.
