The Obama administration has directed the military to not allow personnel to say “Christmas”, in spite of the holiday’s status as a federally-recognized holiday.
The reason given by armed forces officials is that not everyone celebrates Christmas and that out of respect for them, military members should refer to Christmas celebrations simply as “holiday”-themed festivities.
This prohibition comes in the context of a wider push for political correctness in society in general and the military in particular, as evidenced by the recent reprimanding of Navy Chaplain Wes Modder for simply discussing religion, as chaplains are wont to do, with military personnel.

Actually I do. It started with the January 1, 1802 letter by Thomas Jefferson, addressed to the Danbury Baptist Association in Connecticut, and published in a Massachusetts newspaper. He was assuring the association member that the government will not impose a national religion much like Britain had done. Thus, the 1st Amendment which was adopted in 1791 proves that every American has the right to their choice of religion (or none at all) without undo intervention by government or government representative. A President can order that religious symbols to be banned from government property, but to censor speech of individuals that care to express their personal religious beliefs wanders into the 1st Amendment area and Separation of church and state issues.
As to the history of the military allowing Christmas decorations and being able to say “Merry Christmas”, look at the history of the USO shows for the last 70+ years. How many soldiers complained about those shows that were brought to their combat theater in Europe, the Pacific, Vietnam Korea, and the Middle East? Very very few.
The issue is about being overly PC. The truth is you can never give one side allowances for grievances without infringing on some one else’s rights as it is defined by the Constitution . It’s time for Americans to learn how to ignore and tolerate things that they don’t agree 100% with and go on living life.

What an absolute load of garbage!! Why not concentrate on actual threats like terrorism and wasteful government spending and let civilized people work out their differences by themselves?!
