Assistant chief of police, Anita Najiy, created a bone of contention between the Miami Police Department and the Fraternal Order of Police President, Javier Ortiz, after she refused to hold her hand over her heart for the Pledge of Allegiance during a recent promotional ceremony.
Ortiz became livid in seeing Najiy refuse to honor the Pledge, stating that she failed to exhibit courtesy and etiquette that “must be exercised when wearing a law enforcement uniform.”
“If you’re not pledging allegiance to the United States, my question is what country are you pledging allegiance to?” Ortiz asks. “Anyone who isn’t offended by that is not American, because when you become a U.S. citizen, you pledge allegiance to the US.”
Ortiz also states that Najiy’s disrepect comes from her Muslim belief, but that normal “protections” or exemptions generally given in the name of religious freedom and speech doesn´t apply to those in police uniform because “you’re supposed to be neutral.”

its a lady $#%&!@*t. Police Chief but I agree either salute it or leave my Country
I respect your flag, doesn’t mean i have to worship it.
obamer says muzlumhood is a realigned of piece an tolerunce. That nose is growing again!!
Shouldn’t be in that position
Then he needs to find a new job. He doesn’t belong in the Police Dept or for that matter in the U.S.A.
I don’t care about the reason, fire him on the spot. Most likely doesn’t honor the basic foundation of law and order, the 10 commandments. Anyone in leadership positions or uniform has to get it right or move on.
How did he become $#%&!@* police chief he doesn’t be leave in America $#%&!@* him
I believe that there are extremists in all religions. I also believe that American Citizens such as this woman have the freedom of religious choice..and have the first amendment protection to not put their hand on their chest during the pledge..she still stood at attention and faced the flag. I also beleive than an officer of the law with 32 years of service deserves “respect” as well.
You guarantee that ANY officer on her force that did this would be disciplined….yet SHE is an officer on that force and the Miami PD backed her up. So obviously your guarantee is invalid.
