Cantankerous Arizona Senator John McCain hasn’t mellowed at all after his diagnosis of brain cancer following removal of a tumor.
The 81-year old has been a persistent thorn in the side of President Donald Trump, even since the president was still a candidate working for the Republican nomination. McCain has steadfastly tried to distinguish the GOP as a party with separate values from those of Trump.
McCain keeps up his steady drumbeat of anti-Trump rhetoric, knowing the mainstream media will provide him with a megaphone any time he seeks one.
On Thursday, the self-styled maverick provided an op-ed to the Washington Post that continued to stake out his position vis-à-vis the president.

Your are incorrect on your narrative of the fire on the Forrestall. I don’t like McCain at all but I don’t like it when a false narrative is circulated that demeans the men I served with. McCain was a glory hound and used his status as the son of Admiral McCain like a weapon. I spent 23 years in Uncle Sams Canoe Club and I speak from personal professional knowledge. The fire on Forrestall occurred when an F-4 Phantom about 100 feet away at the opposite side of the flight deck accidentally fired a Zuni rocket because of an electrical surge. The rocket streaked across the deck and hit a parked A-4 Skyhawk jet which was waiting to take off, that was piloted by Lcdr John McCain. There is flight deck film and video of the explosion’s and of Lcdr McCain being rescued from that aircraft by Crash and Rescue personnel of the flight deck crew that I served with on two other carriers.
