London has continued the United Kingdom’s recent trend towards Islamification by voting in Western Europe’s first Muslim mayor of a major city. The British capital voted Sadiq Khan into office despite serious questions about several extremist associations in his past.
Despite these controversial connections, as a GOP presidential hopeful, Donald Trump extended an olive branch to the mayor, telling Mr. Khan he would be willing to make an exception to his Muslim ban to allow Khan to visit the United States. Khan did not accept the peace offering.
The new Muslim mayor of London has issued a warning to Donald Trump: Moderate your stance on Muslims, or they will launch more attacks against America.
Trump recently praised Sadiq Khan for winning London’s mayoral race, and said he would be willing to create an exception in his policy restricting Muslim entry into the United States in order to allow Khan to visit. But in a statement Tuesday, Khan dismissed Trump’s invitation, and also denounced his views on Islam as “ignorant,” suggesting Trump’s policies would increase the terrorist threat in both the U.S. and U.K.
Khan went on to claim that Trump’s rhetoric and policies actually deepen the divide between the West and the Muslim world. He touted his own election as proof that Islam and the West are not incompatible. Despite his claims, however, a recent poll of British Muslims appears to contradict Mr. Khan’s assertion. The poll included alarming results including that two-thirds of British Muslims would not alert authorities if aware of a terrorist group. Half said that homosexuality should be a punishable offense in the United Kingdom.
