“Know the Enemy:” 11 Revealing Quotes From Vladimir Putin

As Europe creeps ever closer to a Communist realm (some of those nations are already there) Russia continues to watch from the north on its ever-changing attitudes.  Russia has built a very strong and stable relationship with the Islamic world, primarily through its influence in Iran and Syria, and partially through its Islamic muscle in Chechnya where Ramzan Kadyrov has made a career out of Jimmy Hoffa type endeavors (and who is incidentally stepping down, according to most recent reports, allowing for the Russian government to name a successor) and, though they themselves are not big advocates of taking in refugees or migrants from the Middle East and Africa themselves, applaud the gargantuan welcome mat that Europe has laid out for the Muslims who continue to pour into the continent’s 28-member European Union bloc of nations.

Don’t believe for a second, though, that Russia wouldn’t move to “acquire” some cherry land from Finland, Latvia, Estonia, Ukraine, Georgia, or Belarus if the opportunity presented itself.

On Europe:  Does it benefit European states to simply service Washington’s foreign and even domestic policy aims? I am not sure. Is this the purpose of serious politics, and is this the role countries take on if they desire to call themselves great powers?”

TRANSLATION:  C’mon, Europe!  You know that you want to be just like the Great Bear of the North!  Just tell Washington DC to grow pound sand and come over to our side.  If you want to call yourselves great again, don’t dod the bidding of a dictator 2,000 away!  You’ve got a fine dictator right here, less than 500 miles away!  Let’s do business!

In a sense, Putin has a distinct advantage in Europe over the United States.  Although Brussels knows that the US would NEVER entertain the idea to invade, no matter how screwed up they were or how poorly they crashed their economy, they cannot make that same assurance about Russia.

However…and this is a big one…Russia is part of them.  They have a long history together.  Going back to the age of extravagance and monarchy, both Russia and Europe have a very cozy relationship.  There are many fond memories of the political intrigue that took place between these once great nations and that is a more powerful link than the paltry, tenuous umbilical cord they share with the US.

Not to mention that the US has seen a dramatic rise in nationalist politics which is specifically abhorrent to European leaders.  We will always be the brother of necessity rather than the brother of identity when it comes to Europe.
