Anytime one brings up the subject of religion, the door is opened to acrimonious debate. That may be unfortunate, but it's a fact of life. So strong are the beliefs of the adherents to various faiths, that some cannot calmly debate the truth claims of their various beliefs without going off the deep end. This is unlikely to change anytime soon.
What we have below is a woman alleging to be an Islamic scholar who claims that Muslim men can rape “Non-Muslim women.” She also delves into the issue of the taking of slaves in war, but the central point she attempts to make is the legitimacy of rape, something that is recognized internationally as a heinous crime, in some cases punishable by death.
Condemnation of rape is not just a Christian thing or a Jewish thing or a Western idea. It is a matter of the dignity of human life, something that rape robs a woman of, and a crime that leaves lasting and serious emotional scars.
This woman attempts to legitimize a terrible crime, and as long as those who purport to speak for Islam support such crimes, they can expect those who do no subscribe to their faith to be not only very uncomfortable with Islam, but to be highly critical of it. And we suspect that there are millions of Muslims who would disagree with this woman as well. For the dignity and safety of all women, let us all hope so.
