The Demolition of the “Jungle” Migrant Camp at Calais, France

Calais is located on the French coast near a point where the English Channel becomes most narrow.  As such, it’s been a natural point of transit between England and France for centuries.  It’s also where the French entrance to the channel tunnel is located.

With all this in mind, it’s no surprise that it is a location where migrants have gathered as they attempt to get into Great Britain.  In fact, a refugee camp known as the “Jungle” developed at Calais, home to perhaps 8,000 waiting a chance to get passage to the United Kingdom.  It’s a place of squalor and violence.

Things have gotten so bad that Britain has taken to building a wall that lines roads in Calais to prevent illegal immigration either by boat or through the nearby channel tunnel.

The “Jungle” is now being demolished by government employees as can be seen in the video below.  That doesn’t solve the basic problem, however, as migrants simply move further down the coast to other similar locations.

While the destruction of the “Jungle” eliminates one violent settlement, it removes neither the migrants nor the crisis European nations are facing as a result of their disastrous policies of allowing illegal immigrants to stream into their countries in the first place.

It’s a great example of what America can expect if it pursues similar open border policies.  Only by slamming the door on all but legal immigrants and deporting the illegals already here can the US avoid the problems that Europe has inflicted on itself — not to mention the likelihood that at least some of these migrants are jihadists planning terror attacks once inside the US.

Of course, such a policy flies in the face of the goals of US politicians such as Clinton and Obama who are determined to destroy borders and, consequently, the nation-state.  But then who ever expected leftists to put the interests of Americans first?

Here’s a video of the demolition of the Calais migrant camp know as the “Jungle.”
