AP Screams: 300,000 ‘Eligible’ Wisconsin Voters Were Denied Their Right to Vote

Even some states that have traditionally been Democratic strongholds chose Mr. Trump this past November. This is not the way the world is supposed to work according to the left. Hence, there must have been something other than democracy at work in those states.

This claim that primarily Democratic voters were cheated out of their right to vote is absurd, especially when the claim is made that 300,000 such voters were so disenfranchised in Wisconsin. And the reason stated makes the claim even more ridiculous.

The Associated Press promotes the liberal case for those in Wisconsin:

By one estimate, 300,000 eligible voters in the state lacked valid photo IDs heading into the election; it is unknown how many people did not vote because they didn’t have proper identification. But it is not hard to find the Navy veteran whose out-of-state driver’s license did not suffice, or the dying woman whose license had expired, or the recent graduate whose student ID was deficient — or Harris, who at 66 made her way to her polling place despite chronic lung disease and a torn ligament in her knee.

She had lost her driver’s license just before Election Day. Aware of the new law, she brought her Social Security and Medicare cards as well as a county-issued bus pass that displayed her photo.

Not good enough. She had to cast a provisional ballot that ended up not being counted.

This is nonsense dressed up to appeal to unhappy Hillary supporters.

Rather than 300,000 eligible voters getting disenfranchised, it’s more likely that illegals are voting in significant numbers. In fact, untold numbers of illegal aliens may have found a way to register to vote. But that’s okay since they tend to vote Democrat.

One problem with the AP story is that it claims this 300,000 figure was obtained “by one estimate.” Whose estimate?

Then the AP parades a list of very unfortunate souls who didn’t get to vote because they lacked the proper identification.

Let’s see what the rules are.

Under the Wisconsin law, voters must present a driver’s license, state ID, passport, military ID, naturalization papers or tribal ID to vote. A student ID is acceptable only if it has a signature and a two-year expiration date. Those who do not have their ID can cast a provisional ballot that will be counted only if they return with the proper ID within a few days of the election.

So what’s the problem with that? The only problem is that it dramatically cuts back on the opportunity for voter fraud. Since the left is unhappy with laws that require a current photo ID to vote, perhaps they are supporters of the often joked about practice in Chicago of “voting early and voting often” in each election.

Election dates are not surprises, so folks have months or years to get the proper ID. And even if they fail to get an ID, they can still cast a “provisional” ballot that will be counted if they promptly get the ID to the election authorities after the election is over.

So the Associated Press piece covering this story promotes rubbish. If people otherwise eligible to vote who don’t have valid driver licenses don’t have the initiative to get a suitable ID in the months leading up to an election, then perhaps they are more interested in complaining than voting.

But there’s another angle to this story, one that the left might have overlooked as they pressed this case. What are they saying about the people who were supposedly unable to vote? Former Senator Finegold has clearly become so unhinged over the issue that he doesn’t realize that his remarks can have racist implications.

A former U.S. senator from the state, Democrat Russ Feingold, called voter ID laws “scams” from Republicans who know “the Democratic Party has the numbers to decisively win every presidential election and a majority of Senate seats.”

Feingold was ousted in 2010 by Republican Ron Johnson and was defeated again in a rematch last year. The former senator recently launched LegitAction, a nonprofit advocacy group that advocates for voting rights and abolishing the Electoral College.

“The sole purpose of these laws, including those passed in Wisconsin, is to keep eligible voters from voting, specifically minority and low-income voters who tend to vote Democrat,” Feingold said in a statement to The Associated Press.

Mr. Feingold, what are you saying about minority voters? Why do you believe the requirement that a voter present a valid photo ID works against minorities? Would you explain why you believe minorities have a disproportionate level of difficulty in securing a photo ID?

So the left would have us believe that kids must wear photo IDs to go to school when the same teachers see the same students every weekday, but a voter should not be required to show a photo ID to vote. Only in the world of liberal politics.
