Illegal immigrants have just been shown the door. A federal court judge has erred on the side of reason, deciding that the children of illegal immigrants are not entitled to US citizenship. This must be disappointing for illegals looking to suckle on American rights and entitlements without the hassle of actually becoming Americans or troubling to pay taxes like the rest of us.

Spinning by pointing out that the 14th amendment says these children are in fact American. ..sure Deb…funny how that goes huh you all love the constitution but only when you agree with it …Hate is ugly ..those children are as American as you and I ….

Well said Sharon L Lenz!
Tina DaRosa you are hoping. Too bad your country doesn’t care about you!
You are ridiculous. ..I’m not a citizen of Mexico neither am I a citizen of Kenya the only constitution that addresses me is the American constitution which states any person born in the United states is an American citizen. ..obviously you should spend less time education yourself on other countries and focus on your own constitution which you clearly don’t understand. .or choose to ignore
Tina DaRosa try that in another country
That child is a naturalized citizen …
The founding fathers didn’t write the 14th amendment. ..
This is an enlightened first step by an unusually independent federal judge, but the problem will ultimately have to be addressed and solved by Congress, and may not even require a constitutional amendment, as many have feared. The 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments were specifically passed after the Civil War to protect the newly emancipated black population, granting them respectively the right to freedom, to citizenship, and to voting rights. Under the 14th Amendment, “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and SUBJECT TO THE JURISDICTION THEREOF (caps added), are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside.” This was passed to make sure that the newly reconstituted Southern legislatures would not have the power to strip blacks of their citizenship rights. However, birth alone would not confer these rights, which did not apply to children of foreign diplomats, tourists, or Indian tribes living on reservation. These were NOT subject to US jurisdiction–only citizens or permanent residents are. Citizenship would not be granted to any alien born on American soil–here legally or illegally–but for a couple of Supreme Court decisions in the 1870’s that totally misinterpreted the intent of the 14th Amendment’s drafter, and applied the British standard of birth conveying citizenship. This can and must be rectified, to restore the original intent of the Constitution, and eliminate a ridiculous abuse of the sacred rights of citizenship that is tolerated by no other nation on earth.
