Being prepared for a conflict means keeping serviceable the old ships, especially carriers. Currently there are six oil fueled platforms in mothballs, but ready to spring to service if needed. Then Obama found them.
Since the start of 2014, the Obama Administration has been actually rushing these conventional-fueled ships to Brownsville, Texas, to be scrapped. Four of these ships, USS Forrestal (CV 59), USS Saratoga (CV 60), USS Ranger (CV 61), and USS Constellation (CV 64) have been towed to Brownsville, and a fifth, USS Independence (CV 62), is slated to join them.
That is bad enough, but a sixth carrier, USS Enterprise (CVN 65), was also slated for the scrap yard, and the Obama Administration has already begun that task, even as Russia and China have become more aggressive. How Obama guts the navy is on the next page:

And I asked my goto person (the hubby) and he told me everything that y’all have said and more he always over explains… I can’t really say too much for fear of this being so public. But it is the time of outfitting her to be useful and seaworthy versus building new if we ever do get into a full out conflict.
Carrie yes I’am well aware of Obamas cuts & so are all of our Admirals & Generals & Congress. My problem is no one is trying to stop him. Obama has clearly committed treason, they need to step up & stop this mans deliberate destruction of our armed forces. He is going to sale all our F-16s & wants to get rid of all our A-10s. He put an openly gay man in as secretary of the Army that has no military experience, & cutting the military by another 40,000 troops. Obama must be arrested & impeached, along with Kerry, Hilary & any other known co conspirators. We must clean up Washington no matter which Party you are in. America 1st.
True. After WWII, you did have the infrastructure in place. That remained until after Vietnam, when you had wars that were no longer conventional and required different thinking and tactics. With that came the DOD/Navy thought process that keeping all these almost WWII era ships didn’t make sense, and you saw the dismantling of the mothball fleet infrastructure.
There is a lot about President Obama that I vehemently dislike…but this is not one of them.

I am a former active duty sailor, and know what you are saying is true. These were old ships that could no longer be brought back into active service safely. BTW…I am a conservative as well…one of the “right wingers”…I just don’t react to BS in a Pavlovian fashion…
Agree, Mike. I was onboard the USS Barbey (FF-1088) and the USS John A. Moore (FFG-19) on active duty, and part of the reserve crew for the USS Texas (CGN-39). I also did a 2 week reserve cruise on an LST. What you say is very true. These were totally obselete ships that were no longer useful. Can’t make people listen, though…
Wow, Fred…where did you pull that out of? Are you a former active duty Marine?
As a sailor, I can tell you that we have more capability and cargo capacity to take the jar heads anywhere they want to go. We can even drop them off at the enemies door step in a quiet, stealthy LCS.
So, pray tell, when did you serve in the Corps?
Why don’t we get all the flag waving pseudo-patriots to crew these vessels? They like to send people into the breech, why not come along and deploy with us for 6 months at a time? Who are we going to get to crew these vessels? Why not your sons and your daughters? Why are you asking the man or woman who has already served to do it again?
I think citizenship should be contingent on a MINIMUM of 2 years active duty in the armed services. NO EXEMPTIONS UNLESS FOR A TRUE PHYSICAL REASON.
We can’t even get people to get insurance or vote. How do you suppose this is to be done? A non wartime draft?Currently our soldiers are people that were looking for employment and that is the job they chose. Just like Police.. You and your family are covered for medical, dental and some cases, housing The soldier accepted one of the most dangerous jobs in the world. I don’t believe a Country based on Freedom should require or owe enslavement to the Government. That’s why we pay taxes.
