Who Won the Debate? It Depends on Who You Ask

Below are offered a Heinz 57 smattering of results.

Overall, this is what happened:

Generally, Trump won and lost, according to liberals or conservatives asked, but he still remains atop the heap.

Carly Fiorina, uninvited at the last debate, stormed to the lead or near lead.

Hard as the CNN liberals tried to shove Jeb Bush at the audience as the guy to choose, he showed OK, but no one was sold on him. The fade continues.

The surprising and very popular Dr. Ben Carson has been quietly surging and may continue to do so, but that firebrand, Fiorina roared right by him.

…and were there any other people on the stage? Yes, a few also-rans none of whom registered above 10%. Rubio, Cruz, Huckabee, Walker, et al were merely background. It is still early in the election season, so don’t figure it will stay this way.

Enjoy the hot mess…

The GOP presidential debate winner Wednesday night was dominant front-runner Donald Trump, a Newsmax Poll finds.

In early results from a poll of Newsmax TV viewers, the billionaire businessman logged 46  percent support, while former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina came in second, with 20 percent.

The Republican debate Wednesday night — a three-hour affair that veered from sophomoric insults to policy to late-night silliness — ended with an outsider candidate, former tech executive Carly Fiorina, challenging front-runner Donald Trump in a way few rivals have.

But Google survey says otherwise:

The former Hewlett-Packard CEO garnered 30.3% support in the poll, followed by Donald Trump at 22.6% and Ben Carson at 11.6%.

Among men, Trump held his own with Fiorina:

Fiorina led the rest of the field in every age demographic and led the field among urban and suburban voters. Trump was the top polling candidate among rural voters. With the exception of the $75-99K bracket, Fiorina also led among all levels of income measured by the poll. Liberal sources would not want Trump as President, clearly. Here’s one take from The Atlantic:

Fiorina was the clear winner. She came with a store of zingers, notably directed at Trump. Mr. Trump said he heard clearly what Mr. Bush said. I think women all over this country heard very clearly what Mr. Trump said,” she said of his various misogynistic comments. It was perhaps the first moment in the two debates that Trump seemed truly flustered. More importantly, Fiorina repeatedly delivered clear, crisp, bullet-pointed answers to questions about policy—showing up her rivals, who tended to speak in more sweeping generalities. Often, those proposals didn’t add up once you looked at them closely. For example, her “plan” for Iran involved bringing the rest of the world back around to reinstituting a sanctions regime against Tehran, something that most experts reject as unrealistic. No matter: On a stage where no one seemed as sharp, it was enough to impress.

Trump’s Awkward High Fives

Trump had two notable awkward high fives. This first came when both him and Carson noted they had been against the Iraq war earlier than most:

Next, Trump high fived Jeb like they just won their debate tournament against Exeter during their fun question about secret service code names:

Wait, Since When Is Trump An Anti-Vaxxer?

Apparently Trump is an anti-vaxxer.

Dr. Carson says vaccines are safe, but government control and insistence of their use is the problem, and Trump says we should administer vaccines but in smaller doses and over longer periods of time:

Where The Weed At?!

When asked about Marijuana laws Rand took a progressive stance: “I think the federal government has gone too far… I believe that the states should be left to be left to themselves… How many people smoked pot in high school?

Bush admitted to smoking weed 40 years ago and argued that the decision should be up to the states, but urged the consideration of the dangers of drugs:

Fiorina got personal, saying that we need to educate our kids about the dangers of drugs and that her child died of drug addiction and the the marijuana of today is stronger than yesterdays weed. But acknowledges that marijuana laws exacerbate the problems with mass incarceration and criminal justice:

The American Presence In Iraq

Trump tried to stand out by saying that he was the only one on the stage who rejected the war in Iraq.

Rand was quick to note his opposition to the past and potential future war in Iraq:

Trump Attacks Jeb Via George

In response to Jeb calling his judgement into questions, Trump fired back the Jeb’s brother illustrated bad judgement, which inspired Jeb to say “he kept us safe”:
