The investigation into Omar Mateen, the terrorist who gunned down over 100 people — killing 49 of them — in an Orlando gay nightclub, is only just beginning. The top concern of officials investigating Mateen and the attack is to determine whether or not he acted alone, if there are accomplices still at large, and if those accomplices have any other attack(s) planned.
As in all investigations, authorities are starting with those who knew the shooter best. Media outlets have already uncovered disturbing evidence that Mateen's father — an Afghan immigrant — has a history of anti-gay sentiments and has previously voiced support for the Taliban.
The police and FBI are also focusing closely on Mateen's wife, Noor Zahi Salman. Disturbingly, Salman has admitted to officials that she not only knew of the planned attack but may have been instrumental in her husband carrying out Sunday's massacre.
