Walmart has been installing facial recognition cameras at eye level in the entrances of their new store fronts for some time now. These cameras not only have the ability to cross reference you with social media networks to put a name with the face, but utilzes software that has the ability to ascertain a great many things about the environment. How much exactly is unknown, but in the video on the next page you can see that it not only tracks faces, but can categorize objects and motion.

OMG. what an idiot. I am having a hard time understanding what his issue is other than the cams are connected via Ethernet. the term Ethernet is used to describe the type of connection the wire to the camera uses, such as fire wire, usb, rs232, ect… it is not the network it is connected to, ie, WAN, LAN, internet.it is a connector.most modern day electronics are connected this way. the card reader, the cash register, cameras, atm machine, phones, computers, ect. secondly, the fact that it is mounted at eye lvl. Hmmmmm…maybe to get a good pic of the bad guy that just robed the store, or the guy that just kidnaped little 10 yr old Jessica. walmart, as well as every other store you have been in has many cameras. 40, to 60 of them. most of these cams are HD cams so that they can make out the face, or read a license plate. good things right? well now there is a software program that will help with that. instead of the police hoping that the cam got the plate nr in a pic, the software makes the cams track things of interest such as license plates and faces to help insure that when police review the tapes that they get useful information in catching the bad guy. the fact that the system can also serve as an alarm is even better. hey someone is climbing over the fence, some one set down a backpack, (boston bomber). makes all the patrons of walmart even safer. this guy doesn’t do anything but show his lack of knowledge and paranoia of modern society. “the sky is falling, the sky is falling” be careful my friend, the men in black are watching you……
This is nothing new, it is their property then can do what they like, shop somewhere else. Today with Obama brining in his buddies (Terrorist) it may save your life. After all why should the NSA be the only ones tracking us? This is also being used to track shoplifters, people that are trespassing, etc… I am not surprised they did not so it sooner, Target has been using this for years and so are a lot of other stores, nothing new here, do not like it, shop somewhere else or online.
