1. Project MK Ultra, Subproject 68: Mind Control, Child Abuse

Project MK Ultra was a nightmarish CIA effort to discover methods of influencing and controlling the mind and extracting information from resisting minds. This is truly as horrible as it sounds.

For example, from 1957 to 1965 the CIA contracted Dr. Donald Ewen Cameron to run Subproject 68 involving testing mind-altering substances on human subjects.

Cameron secretly conducted involuntary tests on patients admitted to his Allen Memorial Institute in Montreal (mostly forissues like bi-polar depression and anxiety disorders). They were left with terrible effects that would alter them for life. This therapy included administering electroconvulsive therapy at 30-40 times the normal power. He also put patients into a drug-induced coma for months on end and playback tapes of simple statements or repetitive noises.

In some cases, victims forgot how to talk, forgot about their family, and suffered even more serious amnesia effects. These experiments were performed on Canadian citizens because the CIA feared to be discovered performing such operations on Americans.

When project funding was threatened, things turned even uglier. In one scheme, Cameron used his experiments on a child and then filmed the child engaging in sex with high-ranking government officials in order to extort continued funding!

Drug and chemical testing wasn’t limited to secret operations on foreign soil, though. Check out the next page for an earlier, all-American horror:
