Trump-Ordered Missile Strike in Syria Upsets Many Long-Time Supporters in USA and Across the Pond

Across Twitter, numerous everyday Trump supporters have expressed their chagrin at the missile strikes sent from U.S. Navy ships off the Syrian coast to the airbase at Shayrat at 3:45 a.m. Syrian time. A total of 59 Tomahawk missiles struck such targets as airstrips, hangars, the control tower and munitions areas.

The consensus among the dissenters is that candidate Trump’s previous statements indicating reluctance to involve the United States in further military action in the Middle East were part of the attraction that led them to support and vote for him.

Well-known author and commentator Ann Coulter seemed particularly disappointed.

Those who wanted us meddling in the Middle East voted for other candidates. Trump campaigned on not getting involved in the Mideast. Said it always helps our enemies and creates more refugees. Then he saw a picture on TV.”

In the United Kingdom, political and media figures backing the Trump candidacy voiced their disappointment and concern.

Foremost among them is Nigel Farage, who spent time in the States speaking out of Trump’s behalf during the campaign and meeting with him several times during the presidential transition. It would be difficult to identify a more loyal foreign supporter than Mr. Farage. But he’s let the world know how he feels.

I am very surprised by this. I think of a lot of Trump voters will be waking up this morning and scratching their heads and saying, ‘where will it all end?’

As a firm Trump supporter, I say, yes, the pictures were horrible but I’m surprised. Whatever Assad’s sins, he is secular.   Previous interventions in the Middle East have made things worse rather than better.”

Paul Joseph Watson, who produces video blogs (vlogs) for InfoWars, had a particularly sharp reaction.

I guess Trump wasn’t ‘Putin’s puppet’ after all, he was just another deep state/Neo-Con puppet. I’m officially OFF the Trump train.”

It’s been fun lads, but the fun is over. I’ll be focusing my efforts on Le Pen [French candidate Marine Le Pen], who tried to warn Trump against this disaster.”

Joining in the British pile-on were Ukip leader Paul Nuttall and Ukip donor Arron Banks, both of whom labeled the attack as “rash” and “stupid.”

Newspaper columnist and television personality Katie Hopkins plaintively asked, “Who stole my President?”

Since the initial commotion, Watson has begun to back off his comments, citing the “heat of the moment” on Twitter.

The news isn’t all bad for President Trump. He’s receiving plaudits from leaders around the world for showing the strength and leadership they expect from America.

He’s certainly demolished the absurd Democrat hoax of collusion between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin prior to and after the November election. Putin has already ordered a Russian warship into the area where the U.S. destroyers launched the missile attack.

One benefit of the attack is that it puts Kim Jong-un’s North Korean regime on notice that President Trump will not hesitate to counter aggression on the Korean peninsula or against our strong ally, Japan.

The feckless foreign policy of Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and John Kerry created a vacuum in which actors like Assad, Kim Jong-un and Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei could act with full impunity for their hostile actions.

In addition, the missile strike came while President Trump was meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. China might be influenced to rethink or tone down its recent aggressive actions in the South China Sea.

As the dust settles, supporters and opponents alike will take a new measure of the Commander-in-Chief.
