At over three times the median U.S. household income, this Democratic congressman thinks he and his fellow representatives deserve a raise.
Rep. Jim Moran (D., Va.) told CQ Roll Call members of Congress are “underpaid” and he plans to introduce an amendment to correct the injustice.“I understand that it’s widely felt that they underperform, but the fact is that this is the board of directors for the largest economic entity in the world,” he said.
While that claim is not technically true (the European Union is the largest economic entity in the world), let’s assume for a moment that being on the U.S. “board of directors” should warrant a raise for Congress.
Congressional salaries have been frozen since 2010, but regular members still pull in $174,000 per year – more than triple the 2013 median U.S. household income of $52,000. Leadership positions are compensated higher.
Additionally, the “board of directors” has not exactly been delivering for their “shareholders.” Unemployment remains a staggering 6.7 percent, and the labor participation rate hovers at historical lows.

BULL, they are overpaid, and they don’t vote on bills the way the American people want them to. they vote for the way they want or get more benefits for them selves. their pay should be cut in half at least, then again maybe get only a fourth of their pay.
They don’t work a full as a matter of fact I’m wondering ir the work at all
Over paid is the correct word!
Over paid for doing nothing to protect American and its Constitution. If it were up to me I would not pay their salary. In fact I would impeach most democrats and some Republicans.
No they are not doing there jobs.
way over paid!
For what they do they are way over paid.
Just another pig
money whore
Does he like the bennies like the subsidized meals in the cafeteria, the subsidized haircuts, and the reserved parking places at the airport? I’ll bet he is really upset about the lifetime salary he gets even if he is defeated two years after his first election. Retire after two years at full salary? Maybe he needs to start enjoying that. He is an ungrateful p**s ant.
