The local government also wanted to ban masks, but they feared putting religious attire on the same level as hooligan attire. Perhaps the United States should take notice of Ticino’s decision and follow their example. As President Obama continues to welcome Syrian refugees into the United States, chances are we’ll be seeing a lot more burqas soon enough.
“Those who want to integrate are welcome irrespective of their religion,” explained Giorgio Ghiringhelli, who wrote the proposal. “But those who rebuff our values and aim to build a parallel society based on religious laws, and want to place it over our society, are not welcome.”
The local government also wanted to ban masks, but decided to limit the law to burqas “to avoid putting that on the same level as hooligans and masked demonstrators.” However, tourists are not exempt from the law.
France passed a similar law in 2010, causing an international uproar. However, the European Court of Human Rights upheld it in July of 2014. Though Ticino is one town in a smaller country, they’re taking the necessary precautions to keep themselves safe from extremism.
It’s about the time the rest of Western Europe and the United States did the same. Is the chance of offending somebody really worth risking the safety of a country’s citizens. According to President Obama, it is.

Try wearing a Burqas into a bank to cash a check………Growing up when I was a teen and in a hurry to cash my weekly check I ran into the bank still wearing my motorcycle helmet and they almost hit the alarm button not being able to see my face for the cameras…… all the tellers started yelling to take off the helmet. 🙂
Burqas are an expression of a culture not an expression of religion!!!
