State Senator Sits for Pledge of Alliegance to Support Colin Kapernick

We now have Missouri State Senator Jamilah Nasheed standing, or rather sitting, in solidarity with 49ers quarterback Colin Kapernick in his crusade to make a point by showing disrespect for our country. Somehow Senator Nasheed thinks her actions show her love for the country while encouraging a “conversation” on issues Nasheed believes are important.

“I just wanted to shine the light on these issues and stand alongside those NFL players that have really brought this conversation to fluition,” Nasheed told KRCG13. “This conversation needs to happen.”

What are these issues that so animate this legislator?

The injustice of police brutality – the refusal to mandate police body cameras;

The injustice of poverty – the underfunding of our public schools;

The injustice of voter suppression – passing Voter ID laws;

The injustice of not having health care – not expanding Medicaid;

The injustice of unlivable wages – refusing to raise minimum wage and the right-to-work attack on labor;

The injustice of unequal pay for women;

The injustice of mass incarceration; and

The injustice of economic disparity.

With so many grievances, you have to wonder if the senator finds anything good about the country she is supposed to be serving. In fact with a list of complaints that long, you might wonder how she manages to sleep at night. And it’s pretty amazing that a NFL quarterback can so animate an elected official.

Of course what’s really happening here is Nasheed taking advantage of the publicity and turmoil surrouding Kapernick’s actions to promote the entire left-wing agenda in all its infamous glory.

Missouri’s Lt. Governor took the occasion to criticize her actions.

Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder called Nasheed’s choice “a decision of great sorrow.”

It is sad that a movement of disrespect has taken root in both sports and government. It’s sad that some elected officials are looking to sports figures for leadership. It’s sad that this movement is engulfing professional sports and threatens to do so among legislators.

How long will it be before some legislators start refusing to take the oath of office because such oaths typically contain language similar to the Pledge?

And how long will it be before we tune out a sporting event that allows its participants to trample the founding principles of our nation under foot, and how long will it be before we turn out politicians who mimic their behavior?
