Spike Lee: Americans Don’t Care About Chicago Gun Violence Because of Race

Spike Lee was asked about Chicago’s massive violence problem recently on NBC’s Meet the Press, and he’s once again bringing race into the equation.

When asked why he believes Chicago has such tremendous gun violence Lee said, “I think part of it has to do with that Chicago is America’s biggest segregated city and I think that has to do a lot with it. And people are just thrown to one side of town and left to their own devices.”

Chuck Todd asked, “Why do you think there isn’t this sense of outrage about what’s happening in Chicago? Are we numb?”

Lee interjected, “It’s not Sandy Hook.”

So, Spike Lee, you may be right that people don’t care about Chicago’s murder rate because the race of those involved, but you’re misplacing the blame entirely. Because it doesn’t fit their narrative, Black Lives Matter is the group who turns the blind eye, not mainstream America.

Chicago isn’t a segregated city. If anything, the violence has scared away many non-violent Americans who are fearful for the lives as a result of the increasingly violent minorities thriving in the city.
