Speaker Ryan’s Leadership Blasted as He Fails on Healthcare Bill Again

On this go-round, it appeared the Freedom Caucus as well as prominent think tanks like the Club For Growth and FreedomWorks had signed on for passage of the new AHCA version.

However, a number of moderate Republicans balked this time, with House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy telling the media the Friday vote was postponed because “we’re still educating members.”

Whether or not a vote will come next week remains to be seen. But it clearly marks a major disappointment for President Donald Trump, who hoped to accomplish a healthcare overhaul in the first 100 days of his presidency.

Last evening, both Laura Ingraham and Lou Dobbs appeared on Sean Hannity’s Fox News program to blast Speaker Ryan for his failure to get the job done.

Ingraham made it clear she may be losing patience with Ryan’s leadership. She characterized the latest failure as an “embarrassment.”

Paul Ryan was given this assignment to quarterback this legislation through the House. It wasn’t easy. It was going to be difficult. You have a lot of different factions, different people, different values, different personalities, but this is something you had to do. If you can’t get health care done, and done right, eight years after saying you were gonna do it … I don’t even know what to say about that. What does that say about your ability to lead at a critical time for our economy?”

Dobbs was even more caustic in his condemnation of Ryan’s handling of AHCA.

I think the man is absolutely a disaster. He’s become nothing less than a caricature as House speaker. He’s inept, and the conference, if they don’t get rid of him, we’re going to watch this nonsense go on in perpetuity.”

The Fox Business News host advocated replacement of Ryan as House Speaker by one of two prominent members of the Freedom Caucus: Mark Meadows of North Carolina or Jim Jordan of Ohio.

Paul Ryan is not a conservative, never has been. His leadership team is a mixed bag of conservatives [and] moderates. The Freedom Caucus are traditional conservatives and great Americans, all of them. … You and I both know Mark [Meadows] and Jim Jordan … for the great Republicans they are. I think either one of those two would make such a terrific speaker.”

Ingraham and Dobbs are part of a growing number of conservatives who’re increasingly frustrated with Ryan’s ability to get behind the Trump agenda and move more legislation  in the House of Representatives.
