Slain TV Journalist’s Father Promotes Strict Gun Control, While Buying A Gun

Alison Parker’s mother stated:

There are people out there whose minds we will never change,” she said. “If you are a parent, if you are a mother, if you have children — how can you look your child in the eye and say we are willing to allow you to be collateral damage in order to keep what some people perceive to be their constitutional rights? If we as a society are willing to accept that, what kind of society are we?”

Andy Parker believes he needs a gun to protect him from those who a fanatical about the 2nd Amendment, truth is no one has been gunned down over this debate, by 2nd Amendment advocates.

No doubt his grief is real, his loss unspeakable.  With his fervor, he has lost the truth of free societies, and the common sense that if someone is determined to get a gun, they will get a gun.

His wife turns freedom and what makes us free on its head, instead the question is–are you willing to give up your constitutional rights to allow your children to become collateral damage?  Are you willing to soothe the grief by regulating away your rights to defend yourself?  Are you naive enough to think bad guys won’t always have weapons to harm you?

As far as regulations go:

Parker would also likely be surprised to discover that background checks are already required nationwide for firearms purchase conducted by a gun dealer (FFL), including those conducted at gun shows.

As the 2nd Amendment states:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Before any society has become a dictatorship, or communistic, the first thing they do is take away your self defense.  As with this case, as with life in general, its not the only clear reason for our right to bear arms, but yes, one of the reasons is from the threat of tyranny.  It’s not the law abiding citizens who will be hurt if guns are banned or regulations become so crazy its impossible to buy a gun—its the criminals, like the man who took Alison Parker’s life– who will have the gun–and you can take comfort laws were changed to help a grieving family feel their daughters life “meant something”.

Doesn’t her life already “mean” something?  Or are lives taken too young by violence only mean something if those left behind can enact something so profound it overshadows the life taken–and for a brief moment make the mourners feel like it all “meant something”?
