In light of the recent scandals concerning the VA’s mishandling of our veterans, another unfortunate secret emerged: most of America’s veterans receive zero dental benefits or oral care from the VA.
Dr. Charles Zahedi, the founder and Clinical Director of the not-for-profit organization, Dentists for Veterans, is the very first dentist in United States to have started a pilot program to conduct a nationwide study and initiative to precisely assess the feasibility and advisability of furnishing dental care to veterans under section 1705 of title 38, United States Code, who are not eligible for dental services and treatment.
By carrying out this pilot program, Dentists for Veterans will enable the Veterans Administration to better specify performance standards and metrics and processes for ensuring compliance with the hopes that these will one day be funded by federally-directed dental treatment programs. In addition, by executing this program, Dentists for Veterans will be able to rapidly identify those veterans who are completely orally disabled.
Until that funding is secured, Dentists for Veterans is rallying patriotic Americans to donate a minimum of $25 to build and furnish mobile dental facilities that will drive around America and treat veterans who lack the funds and means to get proper dental care.

WTH! Don’t mistreat our Vets – they should be given anything they need for them and their FAM to live comfortable in this World!
This is true! In my case, I was ordered to have my teeth repaired while in the service. Three (3) caps were installed plus replacement of all of my civilian fillings. Today, one of those caps needs work and I have two broken teeth. Now, 44 years later, the VA will not even work on what the military required me to have. I am retired and cannot afford private dental work. Let me say that the Major who performed the work and the St. Louis and Walter Reed dental labs that made the crowns did an outstanding job. They have lasted almost a half century! The Major went onto do advanced dental study at Harvard while still on active duty. Some of the best spending of our tax dollars! My thanks to Major James Moss.
Unless you are considered 100% disabled by the VA, they provide NO dental care, which I feel is wrong and needs to be changed.
Well if they can take care of teeth and medical for the mentally ill in state hospitals they had better surely take care of the Veterans that defended our well being and lost a lot of theirs !!!
yes you have to have service connected damage???? I asked whats that ??….getting shot in the face ?? are you $#%&!@*tin me??..they just shrugged their shoulders…with medical care so expensive we do have somewhat of good health care my health vet seems to be a good thing for me except no dental….
I ask why not we could use the sliding scale. They sure did make sure your teeth were fixed when you were in service though.
They don’t cover hearing aids either.
They should be eligible for all and any medical care they need….including oral and dental care!
Omg!
Military Retirees pay for their own dental insurance which basically fully covers 2 cleanings per year but if you have other procedures that need to be done, it’s mostly out of pocket.
