In light of the recent scandals concerning the VA’s mishandling of our veterans, another unfortunate secret emerged: most of America’s veterans receive zero dental benefits or oral care from the VA.
Dr. Charles Zahedi, the founder and Clinical Director of the not-for-profit organization, Dentists for Veterans, is the very first dentist in United States to have started a pilot program to conduct a nationwide study and initiative to precisely assess the feasibility and advisability of furnishing dental care to veterans under section 1705 of title 38, United States Code, who are not eligible for dental services and treatment.
By carrying out this pilot program, Dentists for Veterans will enable the Veterans Administration to better specify performance standards and metrics and processes for ensuring compliance with the hopes that these will one day be funded by federally-directed dental treatment programs. In addition, by executing this program, Dentists for Veterans will be able to rapidly identify those veterans who are completely orally disabled.
Until that funding is secured, Dentists for Veterans is rallying patriotic Americans to donate a minimum of $25 to build and furnish mobile dental facilities that will drive around America and treat veterans who lack the funds and means to get proper dental care.

Wow, I was not aware of this. How bull$#%&!@* is that? I mean dental work for the most part is not all that damn difficult!
If you are 100% disabled, the VA will provide dental care. Even if you only served 2 or thee years and was never in a combat zone. For myself that spent over 37 years with several over seas trip, the VA will not provide me dental care. Strange that some of the tours over seas did not include good hygiene and by teeth went bad because of that scenario, But my failing eyesight did not have anything to do with the military service. I mean, look at this way. What caused my eyesight to diminish? Age for one and genetics, but the VA provided me with glasses. DUUUHHH! Why not dental?
Never mind Ebola, the VA in Orlando is giving people Legionnaire’s Disease. Don’t drink the water.
The VA does provide care to disabled vets. Unfortunately the VA does not have enough staff to handle
All in a timely manner.
if you don’t have a service connected disability that is dental related, no Dental Care. If you have are 100% you get Dental, if you are indigent and have a qualifying Means test, you get Dental. Im at 30% but I make too much so I don’t qualify for Dental, I do however get other services from the VA…..
Tryst says:
“Yep. I have a painful lump in my mouth that makes it difficult to eat, but I’m just living with it indefinitely because the VA won’t treat it, I can’t afford a dental exam/treatment yet, and because of other service-related disabilities, I was unable to perform my job and lost it (but VA disability isn’t enough to live on), so I have no employer coverage either. Getting the painful lump in my mouth looked at will just have to wait.”
