In light of the recent scandals concerning the VA’s mishandling of our veterans, another unfortunate secret emerged: most of America’s veterans receive zero dental benefits or oral care from the VA.
Dr. Charles Zahedi, the founder and Clinical Director of the not-for-profit organization, Dentists for Veterans, is the very first dentist in United States to have started a pilot program to conduct a nationwide study and initiative to precisely assess the feasibility and advisability of furnishing dental care to veterans under section 1705 of title 38, United States Code, who are not eligible for dental services and treatment.
By carrying out this pilot program, Dentists for Veterans will enable the Veterans Administration to better specify performance standards and metrics and processes for ensuring compliance with the hopes that these will one day be funded by federally-directed dental treatment programs. In addition, by executing this program, Dentists for Veterans will be able to rapidly identify those veterans who are completely orally disabled.
Until that funding is secured, Dentists for Veterans is rallying patriotic Americans to donate a minimum of $25 to build and furnish mobile dental facilities that will drive around America and treat veterans who lack the funds and means to get proper dental care.

Teresa I get 100% dental care from the VA because my disability was connected with my service in the army
that’s not right!
God bless our vets..
As a retired combat vet, I can tell you tis post is misleading. If you have a service connected disability that falls in dental or oral, you will be covered. If you retire, you have the option to purchase dental insurance through delta dental or concordia dental (can’t remember what the current one is). When you leave the service, if you have not had a dental exam within 90 days of actual discharge, you are covered for a check-up at the VA and anything found is most likely going to be fixed in follow up appointments.
I am a disabled ww2 vet and i know in some areas coverage is touted but in some areas like Oklahoma poor doctors are hired to save money and they give very poor service. I havnt seen a foot doctor in over a year because their record keeping is so poor. I asked to see a ent doctor and he refused to see me. Armand Proulx disabled ww2 vet. I am a combat vet
VA dental treatment is only for those who have been POW’s.
Nothing new or shocking about it. It has always been this way. Armand Proulx, my father was also a combat vet from WWII. He always said that only in dire emergencies would he use the VA hospitals. Only one time in my life do I recall him ever using one. I was a young child at the time, so I do not remember what kind of care he got. But, I know for a fact, having been married to a disabled vet for 22 years, that the VA system has been second and third class providers for as long as I was involved with trying to get medial care for my husband. There may be some good VA hospitals….I hear the one the politicos in Washington use is great…but my experience of them in the south is that they should be closed down completely. About 30 years ago they started bringing in foreign doctors, many of whom had very little knowledge of the English language. And if a doctor is needed, it usually took months to get an appointment and then you would spend all day there, even with a 8am appointment. The VA center in Jackson, MS use to set all appointment for either 6 or 8AM (6 for lab work and 8 for the doc). Ad God help you if you need medication now…the normal wait for meds was a month. I assume it is still that way. Have not been involved with them for the past 8 years. But, I feel sure they continue to get worse instead of better. I could tell you horror stories of my experiences, and I’m sure you could share some too. Good luck sir. God bless you and thank you for your service.
So sad, but if they were ILLEGAL they get that, housing, medical and would be first in line, free schooling and a monthly check. Oh and let’s not forget food stamps.
Exactly. A vet has up to 3-months to see a dentist. What sucks, it takes at least that long to get an appointment.
It’s time the Veterans stand up an demand dental treatment. I bet the congressmen are covered by there health care.
