Sessions Responds to Trump Criticism, Resignation Possibility

At a news conference to discuss cybercrime today, General Sessions gave every indication he fully intends to stay on as the top man in the Justice Department and chief law enforcement officer for the United States.

“We in this Department of Justice will continue every single day to work hard to serve the national interest, and we whole-heartedly join in priorities of President Trump,” Sessions responded. “I have the honor of serving as attorney general. It’s something that goes beyond any thought that I’ve ever had for myself.”

Sessions noted he loves the job and the department and added, “I plan to continue to do so as long as that is appropriate.”

Reporters pressed him further on whether he could stay on the job if he doesn’t have the confidence of the president.

We’re serving right now—the work we’re doing is the kind of work we intend to continue,” Sessions said.

In his comments to the Times, President Trump noted the recusal was “very unfair to the president,” but did not comment on the job being done by Sessions now. His remarks were clearly retrospective.

How do you take a job and then recuse yourself?” Trump asked. “If he would have recused himself before the job, I would have said, ‘Thanks, Jeff, but I’m not going to take you.”

In June the Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, New York Times and ABC News pimped a story that tension between Trump and Sessions was growing and that Sessions had offered his resignation, but Trump wouldn’t accept it. Of course the typical anonymous sources were cited for the stories.

Both men declined to acknowledge the stories, knowing it was just more Deep State mischief to undermine the Trump administration.
