Senator Franken’s Attempt to Connect Judge Gorsuch to Steve Bannon Fails Miserably

It is very clear that Judge Gorsuch is qualified to be on the Supreme Court. Even the American Bar Association, which leans left, gave him its highest possible rating. Hence, the silly, politically-motivated questions from Senator Franken are really irrelevant. He may as well have just given a short statement to the news media and been done with it.

Here is what it looks like when Mr. Franken goes on a fishing expedition and wastes people’s time:

“Mr. Priebus [said] your nomination was central to President Trump’s fulfilling his policy objectives, quote, ‘Neil Gorsuch represents a type of judge that has a vision of President Trump, and it,’ — referring to your nomination — ‘fulfills the promise that he made to all of you,’ speaking to the conservative activists gathered at CPAC,” Franken said. “What do you think that Mr. Priebus was talking about?”

“Respectfully, Senator, Mr. Priebus doesn’t speak for me and I don’t speak for him,” Gorsuch said. “I don’t appreciate when people characterize me, as I’m sure you don’t appreciate when people characterize you.

“I like to speak for myself,” Gorsuch said. “I am a judge.

“I am my own man,” Gorsuch added.

Since that went nowhere, Mr. Franken then turned to the issue of  White House Strategist Steve Bannon’s comments about “deconstruction of the administrative state” — again, something that has nothing to do with Judge Gorsuch or his qualifications to be a Supreme Court Justice.

“Taking Steve Bannon at his word, do you think only Cabinet appointees were selected to bring about this deconstruction or do you think the White House also sees a role here for its judicial nominees?” Franken asked Gorsuch.

“Senator, respectfully, I believe that’s a question best directed to Mr. Bannon,” Gorsuch replied.

And that ended that. Judge Gorsuch, as expected, handled the matter very well. Of course, he wasn’t presented with the most impressive opponent in the form of Mr. Franken which is no doubt partly why he disposed of him so effortlessly.

The only part that must have been difficult for the judge was to use the word “respectfully” when addressing the senator.
