Senator Cruz Calls for Legislation to Cut-Off Funding to UN Until Anti-Israel Vote is Reversed

Wherever you come down on the nation of Israel from a religious standpoint, there is no question that the tiny nation is a major player on the world scene, with an influence far beyond the size of the country.  It’s constantly in the news, and its internal politics are watched globally. Not only that, it has a very robust military that is quite capable of defending its interests in that very turbulent part of the world.

It has been a sad fact that Mr. Obama has refused to support Israel which is, after all, our closest ally in the Middle East. Not only has he opposed the nation, but he has made it very clear that he has no respect whatsoever for its Prime Minister. The animosity between Mr. Obama and Mr. Netanyahu couldn’t be more obvious.

The recent refusal of the US to veto an anti-Israel resolution in the UN Security Council should surprise no one.  That the Obama regime worked behind the scenes to help craft the document shouldn’t be a surprise either.  But now Senator Cruz has stepped into the issue:

Republican Sen. Ted Cruz called for the U.S. Congress to cease funding United Nations operations until a vote the UN held Friday is reversed.

The vote in the UN officially calls Israeli settlements in “occupied Palestine” illegal, and demand that Israel “immediately and completely cease all settlement activities.”

Cruz called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu late Saturday evening to wish him a happy Chanukah, and to assure the leader that the United States Congress will work to reverse the decision.

With Mr. Obama still in the White House, getting such bill passed would be a monumental task. With Mr. Trump as president —  it would be much easier as Senator Graham points out.

“I anticipate this vote will create a backlash in Congress against the United Nations,” Graham said. “The organization is increasingly viewed as anti-Semitic and seems to have lost all sense of proportionality. I will do everything in my power, working with the new administration and Congress, to leave no doubt about where America stands when it comes to the peace process and where we stand with the only true democracy in the Middle East.”

A couple of conclusions can be drawn from this situation.  First, Mr. Obama’s power is waning fast.  While he can certainly still create serious problems, the nation and the world are already adjusting to what will soon be the Trump presidency.

It also shows the duplicity of the Obama regime, something that has been shamefully on display for eight years. Israel’s concerns about being betrayed by an American president have less than a month to go.  And it’s a sense of relief that Americans themselves can feel as well.
