Seattle Schools Implant IUDs in 11-Year-Old Girls Without Parental Knowledge

IUDs work as a contraceptive and can even act as an abortifacient. They offer no protection against sexually transmitted diseases.

It is astounding that middle and high school students can’t buy a coke or bar or chocolate because they have been banned for health reasons, but they can easily obtain contraception without their parents knowledge.

The liberals are winning folks. This country doesn’t have much left to stand on before it collapses under socialism and depravity.

On the Washington State Medicaid website it states that there are health centers at four middle schools and nine high schools in Seattle who now take part in a contraception-focused initiative called ‘Take Charge’, which has been in effect for a number of years now.

Chief Sealth school actually began offering the devices in 2010.

Earlier this week CNS News reported that a spokesperson for the Washington State Health Care Authority Take Charge program, which is targeted at girls and women of all ages who do not have health insurance, said that underage students are eligible for a ‘full array of covered family planning services’ at school-based clinics if their parents meet the program’s requirements’.

The spokesperson also noted that ‘a student who does not want their parents to know they are seeking reproductive health services is allowed to apply for Take Charge using their own income, and if they are insured under their parents’ plan, the insurance would not be billed’.

When asked by CNS News if a sixth grader could get an IUD implanted without parental consent, the spokesperson responded: ‘We encourage all Take Charge providers to offer long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs) in their clinics.

‘A young person does not need parental consent to obtain a LARC or any other contraceptive method…

‘If the young person is not choosing abstinence, she would be able to select a LARC and have it inserted without parental consent.’

And it is not just the idea that their children are able to obtain contraception without their consent that may worry parents, as there are in fact a number of reported health risks connection with IUDs.

According to medical experts, IUDs can, in rare cases, cause a perforation in the uterus, which could lead to serious complications and, in some cases, internal bleeding.

LARCs have also been associated with a number of other side effects, such as pelvic infections, ovarian cysts and aggravated bleeding.

But despite the additional health risks, Seattle school health educator Katie Acker, who works at two high school clinics in the area, believes that the state’s controversial policy on contraception has had a hugely positive impact.
