Did Scaramucci Finger Priebus For Financial Disclosure Leak?

Scaramucci immediately tried to clarify things by noting that as chief of staff, Priebus has a responsibility to clamp down on leaks and that he included the hashtag as a way of indicating he wanted Priebus to be kept in the loop. But a CNN interview this morning only added to the confusion.

He kept speculation alive about a deepening rift with Priebus by saying, “If Reince wants to explain that he’s not a leaker, let him do that.” Scaramucci made clear in the interview he and the chief of staff have “odds” and “differences” that might not go away.

The financier turned spokesman acknowledged that he and Priebus “fight like brothers” but “I don’t know if this is reparable or not, that will be up to the president.”

The leaked financial disclosure prompted a Politico report that indicated the considerable wealth Scramucci has amassed in his Wall Street career.

The incoming White House communications director earned $4.9 million from his ownership stake in SkyBridge in addition to more than $5 million in salary between Jan. 1, 2016, and the end of June, when he joined the Export-Import Bank, according to a financial disclosure filed with the Office of Government Ethics. The disclosure form hasn’t been previously reported.”

Scaramucci has made the claim that the leak of the information may constitute a felony, but opinions are mixed on that because the document has been filed publicly.

In response to Scaramucci’s call for the DOJ to investigate, Justice Department spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores pledged the DOJ would pursue an investigation.

We have seen an astonishing increase in the number of leaks of classified national security information in recent months. We agree with Anthony that these staggering number of leaks are undermining the ability of our government to function and to protect this country. Like the Attorney General has said, ‘whenever a case can be made, we will seek to put some people in jail,’ and we will aggressively pursue leak cases wherever they may lead.”

No doubt the White House drama will continue because the two staffers previously dismissed for leaking, Michael Short and Katie Walsh, were both brought on board by Priebus from the Republican National Committee.

The new communications director brings a tough, New Yorker style that’s more in keeping with what President Trump is used to and what he likely thinks is needed to drain the Washington swamp.
