Sanders Accuses President Trump of Committing a Crime, Based On Pure Hearsay

Showing his ability to stay on message and keep up with the unending stream of accusations against Donald Trump, Sanders focused on media reports of an alleged memo by fired FBI Director James Comey that claims the president wanted Comey to halt the investigation into General Michael Flynn’s contact with representatives of the Russian government.

It’s clear the aging senator takes media reports citing unnamed sources as Holy Writ. But in keeping with Democrat talking points, he led off with the tired Russian collusion narrative.

… the evidence is now overwhelming that Russia interfered in our election through cyber warfare. There is now an investigation going on as to whether or not there was collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russians, and that’s a very, very important issue. Because if there was collusion, and I’m not saying that there was, this is a serious crime.”

It’s not exactly clear what crime he has in mind. After more than a year of mass hysteria, not one shred of evidence has been produced to substantiate the charge of collusion. But then, innuendo is a specialty of the Democrats and media. By just planting seeds of doubt, they hope the public will lose confidence in the president.

The New York Times broke the story of the alleged Comey memo, but acknowledged its reporter hadn’t seen a physical copy of the memo. The information was obtained from an unnamed Comey associate who read the memo over the phone to the reporter. That was enough for Sanders to treat it as Gospel.

And then we learn in the midst of all of this that Trump asked Comey, according to news reports, he just mentioned it, to stop the investigation of General Flynn, which is kind of the definition of what obstruction of justice is about.”

The White House has firmly denied the Comey memo report.

[T]he President has never asked Mr. Comey or anyone else to end any investigation, including any investigation involving General Flynn,” an official said. “The President has the utmost respect for our law enforcement agencies, and all investigations. This is not a truthful or accurate portrayal of the conversation between the President and Mr. Comey.”

In a breathtaking display of total irresponsibility, the media and political hacks like Sanders are relying on what’s essentially hearsay to accuse the President of the United States of committing obstruction of justice.
