Russia Threatens First Use of Nukes in Eastern Europe if Threatened, Even in a Conventional War Setting

At the 2017 GLOBSEC Bratislava Global Security Forum in Bratislava, Slovakia, a member of Russia’s Parliament signaled that Russia could consider first use of nuclear weapons if U.S. or NATO forces enter eastern Ukraine.

The GLOBSEC forum is an annual meeting of governmental security experts from around the world. GLOBSEC is an independent, non-partisan, non-governmental organization created to promote discussions regarding global security with government leaders.

Vyacheslav Alekseyevich Nikonov told the international gathering last Sunday that Russian military and governmental leaders continue to review Russian policy regarding the use of nuclear weapons in relation to the expansion of the NATO alliance.
