Russia Imposes Economic Sanctions on Turkey

It is also well known that Russian President Vladimir Putin is aggressively seeking to expand his power and world stature, and the opportunity to step in and embarrass the U.S. for it’s weak response and poor leadership regarding ISIS was perhaps too enticing to ignore. The flight over Turkish/NATO airspace by a Russian war plane could very well have been a test to see how they would respond. And, of course, reaction to the shooting down of the aircraft could have been managed much more effectively by a petulant Obama, who is more inclined to react rather than to act in crisis situations. It should be noted that world players generally applauded the Russian movement against ISIS, recognizing the global threat that it is.
The next act in the unfolding play was Putin’s statesmanship as he ultimately responded in a more diplomatic way to the incident. After denying the Russian aircraft violated Turkish airspace, which it undeniably did, and demanding an apology, Putin backed away from saber rattling and threats of military action against Turkey, and he has started implementing economic sanctions and travel restrictions. So in the overall scheme of things, Putin has shown he is a power in the area to be reckoned with, he will take decisive action against a foe such as ISIS, which will be grandly applauded by the Western world, and now he has shown that he is reasonable and will act in a measured and limited way against Turkey by backing off from his initial military threats.  And the biggest loser in the entire operation is the impotent Obama who has been shown to be weak and ineffective.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree imposing a package of economic sanctions against Turkey following its downing of a Russian Su-24 bomber in Syria. The measures include banning several Turkish organizations and the import of certain goods.
