Report: Gov McAuliffe ‘Hid Facts’ that ‘Alien Voters are Casting Ballots with Practically No Legal Consequences”

Virginia authorities are trying to cast the discovery of ineligible voters in a positive light, claiming it shows that the state is on the job.

Edgardo Cortes, Virginia’s elections commissioner, said the new report actually represents a victory, showing how well Virginia does at weeding out voters who admit they are ineligible.

“As the PILF report shows, Virginia election officials have been and are continuing to promptly remove individuals who self-identify as non-citizens from the statewide voter registration list in accordance with federal and state law,” Mr. Cortes said in a statement.

He also said Virginia publishes its efforts to maintain voter lists, including removal of voters who died, were deemed ineligible or moved.

But this isn’t the issue. It’s not that votes are not being counted. The contention is that there are millions of voters on the roles nationwide who should not be. McAuliffe has gone so far as to grant voting rights to convicted felons, so it should come as no surprise that things in Virginia are not as they should be.

Mr. Cortes at the time said there were no indications of fraud, saying that the ballots cast were counted properly.

But Mr. Trump’s contention is not that valid votes weren’t cast. He says, rather, that millions of ineligible voters are being allowed to vote.

Noncitizens are not supposed to register, but many of them do anyway because of U.S. laws meant to encourage higher turnout. The National Voter Registration Act, dubbed “Motor Voter,” required states to offer voter registration at places where government officials are likely to encounter citizens, such as motor vehicle bureaus.

Regardless of how they vote, noncitizens should not be on our voting roles. Politicians like McAuliffe can claim they are working to prevent this form of voter fraud, but given his history, this must be called into question. And given the boost that illegal voters give to the Democrats, there’s certainly an incentive for them to look the other way when it comes to ineligible voters on their roles.

President Trump’s bipartisan committee on the integrity of our elections has much work to do, as the problems in Virginia likely represent only a fraction of the fraud that is impacting our elections.
