Reading about fraud is always upsetting, but reading about charity fraud is downright infuriating.
When the already-impoverished nation of Haiti was struck by a devastating earthquake in 2010, people around the world opened their checkbooks to donate money to the reconstruction of the country. Among the recipients of these generous donations was the Red Cross, who pledged to help the people of Haiti get back on their feet with the millions of dollars given to them.
Yet five years after launching LAMIKA, a project named after a Creole acronym for “A Better Life In My Neighborhood” and meant to build hundreds of homes in Port-Au-Prince, only six homes have been built across the entire country, forcing citizens to continue dwelling in shacks without water, electricity or basic sanitation and regular flooding. In short, the Red Cross has delivered far less than it promised not just to it’s donors, but to the people it claimed it would help as well.

I gave up on most charities after the 9-11 fiasco, everyone raised money but no one seemed to have spent any on the stated reasons for it. The exception that I still support is The Nature Conservancy, really great cause.

Red Cross has been crooked for many years, way back to when Elizabeth Dole managed it and was paid huge $$$ for nothing. All the money goes to top fat salaries and the poor get no help.
Nice for Haiti but we need to take care of our needy.
Its not that they are in efficient , they are all flat out crooks like the politicians running this country
I don’t give to charities anymore unless it is local and I can see the results. I don’t give to things like toys for tots because I feel I have paid to support people all year, I don’t owe their kids a Christmas too. I will help any family in my community during a hardship. And I don’t give for free school supplies either. Mostly what shows up are the Hispanics and the druggies. I do give to the local elderly and disabled apartment complexes. Their rent is so high and they barely have food to eat or clothes to wear.
That’s the reason I won’t donate to the Red Cross. Too much donations get diverted to who knows where. Then there’s the executives that have outrageise salaries for a relief organization.
You don’t give money to Red Cross,unicef,American cancer society,the so called money never gets to the ones in need. Keep your money,the salvation army want help if you need a place to stay.
