Putin Ready to Provide Transcripts Proving Trump Did Not Disclose Intelligence Secrets

Putin used the occasion to mock the American media’s effort to create a controversy where none really exists. He joked that Lavrov would be blamed for not passing on the secrets learned in the Trump meeting.

I spoke to him (Lavrov) today,” said Putin with a smile. “I’ll be forced to issue him with a reprimand because he did not share these secrets with us. Not with me, nor with representatives of Russia’s intelligence services. It was very bad of him.”

Putin said the reports that President Trump revealed classified intelligence secrets to the Russians have become “political schizophrenia” and that Russia is willing to help resolve the issue.

There is no other way I can explain the accusations against the acting US president that he gave away some secrets to Lavrov. It’s hard to imagine what else these people who generate such nonsense and rubbish can dream up next.”

The Putin offer to provide the transcript of the Trump-Lavrov discussion to Congress rests on the condition the White House would request such an action.

The Russian president also made pointed comments on the current state of politics in the United States and expressed his displeasure at the anti-Russian rhetoric offered by politicians on both sides of the aisle as well as in the news media.

What surprises me is that they are shaking up the domestic political situation using anti-Russian slogans. Either they don’t understand the damage they’re doing to their own country, in which case they are simply stupid, or they understand everything, in which case they are dangerous and corrupt.”

Putin made it clear he understands this is an internal U.S. matter and that he doesn’t want or plan to interfere.

In recent tweets, President Trump has acknowledged that the information provided in the meeting with Lavrov related to joint efforts to fight terrorism and enhance airline flight safety. He emphasized that as president, he has every right to disclose facts related to those vital issues.

Both Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster, who were in the Trump-Lavrov meeting, have defended the president and refuted any accusations that he divulged intelligence secrets.

Of course, the news reports are based on unnamed “officials” making the allegation of the intelligence disclosure. More fake news?
